First post on my art blog, not sure what to say so ill just do a quick recap of what i'm working on right now.

the wounder full tank you can see on your left is the Glaive class super heavy tank from the war hammer 40k universe. Since i'v always loved mechanized tread-ed vehicles this seemed like a great subject matter to brush up my skill and would represent my first major solo project (so excited)

Step 1 - The placeholder

step one is always the block out phase. Most of it was simple however the curved sections on the back of the turret and the tracks were some tricky areas.

Splines were super handy when it came to the tracks as you can just draw a rough guide and define the track width and thickness dynamically.

Total time taken: 40 mins

Step 2 - the chassis

modeling the chassis was slightly more tricky than expected as the reference material didn't give a good blueprint style breakdown of the object. Though these issues paled in comparison to the cylindrical modeling methods of the entry port and its inlay ed nature.

The presentation was also mixed up up with a more dynamic pose however i feel that this doesn't highlight the actual section that was modeled.

Total time taken:5 hours

Step 3 - The Heavy Bolter

within the front gun ports are mounted heavy bolters. I decided to model these separately so that i could reuse them in other places or perhaps for alternate turrets later on.

there was a problem however as my reference imagery showed no detail within the gun mount  itself which looked wrong compared to the detail of the rest of the model. SO i i did some research into actual tank gun ports and so put the bolters in that metal rotating curtains this looked much more interesting that just an empty socket with the guns in them.
this singled out section works much better presentation wise as the changes made are now nice and clear.

Total time taken : 9 hours

Step 4 - The track guards and body top

the next step was fairly simple. I think these track covers could be very useful for making variants or scenery as they are quite appealing. The door on the side it built to open. so later on I can animate it if I want to.

Total time taken: 11 hours

And that's all the progress made so far. i'm aiming to finish the high poly before Christmas. lets see how that goes shall we.
